Family Visit and the End of Camp Meeting
05/27/07 11:08 PM Filed in: Personal
My Mom, Grandma & Grandpa, and cousin's Amber and Travis came down to GBS for the last day of Camp Meeting. They not only came for the services, but also to take a load of my junk home. I had already sent home one other load, but without this second trip I never would have gotten everything home! Thanks Travis for traversing the treacherous stairs with me and carrying my stuff down!

Graduation
05/27/07 11:05 PM Filed in: School

Yesterday (Saturday the 26) was the graduation service for GBS college and high school seniors. There was a large crowd! The auditorium was packed. I must admit viewing the ceremony with an ounce of envy, wishing it was my turn to walk across that platform, and have the next few years behind me. Ahh, well, this year has flown by, and I guess the next few will as well.

The Beginning of Camp Meeting
05/22/07 11:28 PM Filed in: School
Camp Meeting started tonight here at GBS and will continue through Sunday. There are three speakers, including tonight's speaker, Dr. Paul Kaufman, and Dr. Wingrove Taylor, who is a regular speaker for the meeting, and Rev. Chris Cravens. Dr. Kaufman did a fantastic job tonight! I have a feeling we are in for some good preaching over the next few days!

A Few Portraits I Recently Took
05/22/07 06:01 PM Filed in: Photography

I was asked recently to take a few portraits for some people from GBS. I had a lot of fun! The first picture is of my fellow students, Aaron and Lisa. The baby is Elliott Profitt, the son of Aaron and Lisa Profitt (Mr. Profitt is one of my professors). The first picture was taken at a nearby park, while Elliott's pictures were taken on the GBS campus. The funny thing with Elliott is that as soon as they would set him on the ground he was start to cry. So, I got a lot of really cute crying pictures

Concert on the Lawn

Yesterday was GBS' Concert on the Lawn where the Symphonic Wind & String Ensemble performs works from a plethora of sources. Some of the music this year included the National Anthem, selections from The Phantom of the Opera, and Oklahoma. They did a superb job! It was well attended, and I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed it!

Inside a Computer's Brain

While reading JonBart's blog I
found another article to a cool article
concerning computers and artificial
intelligence. Have you ever wondered what a
computer's brain looks like? Well, a group
called the ALICE AI foundation have created a
computer named "ALICE" that uses artificial
intelligence. If you go here
you can see a map of the computers "brain" of
all the words that she knows. Pretty cool huh?
To read the rest of the article go here. Enjoy!

Personality Test
05/19/07 07:34 PM Filed in: Other
This must be my week for stealing cool blogs from
friends, but I was reading another persons blog
(Brenda Herring)
and she also had a cool article about
personalities. She is taking a masters level
class, and she had to take a personality test
online, and then read an explanation of the
results. I went and took it as well, and the
results were amazing! It's really easy to take,
and it will only take you about 10-15 min.
Simply go to http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp
and take the survey. At the end it will give you
four letters. Take those four letters and go to
http://www.personalitypage.com/portraits.html
There you will find a list of all the letters,
simply find yours, click on it, and read the
explanation of your four letters. It's
very interesting! I'm a INTJ, what are
you?

How High Can You Hear?
05/19/07 07:28 PM Filed in: Other
I was reading one of my regular bloggers [my friend
JonBart (tech guy
at GBS)] and he had the coolest article. Have
you ever wondered how high of a pitch you can
hear? Well, Ultrasonic
Ringtones is a sight that will help you
figure it out. It has 12 different frequencies
that you can listen to as they get progressively
higher, hence, harder to hear. It starts out at
8khz and goes to 22.4khz. I can hear up to
18.8khz. How about you?

Fun Day at the Zoo
05/18/07 09:14 PM Filed in: Personal
Student Council had a special event today where you could go to one of four events, and they would reimburse you up to $20 for any expenses that you incurred. You can't pass up an opportunity like that! So, Megan and I went with a group of about eighteen GBS students to the Cincinnati Zoo. We had a wonderful time! The weather couldn't have been any better, and we got a parking spot about 20' from the entrance. It was a nice zoo, with lot's of exhibits. I think one of our favorite exhibits was of some small penguins. We had a blast just watching them, and trying to analyze/commentate what they were doing. "Mutiny!" "Retreat! Retreat!" "World domination!" were just a few of the expressions that were clearly evidenced by these 'cute' little penguins... After leaving the zoo most of the group then went to Outback Steakhouse and enjoyed a delicious meal. Everyone had an awesome time. To see some pictures from the zoo, go here, and scroll to the bottom of the page. I hope this tradition is continued!

Cramming in the Cafateria
05/14/07 09:32 PM Filed in: School
Tonight was officially declared a study night into the cafeteria for exams tomorrow. They had snacks and a lot of students with worried, stressed out, bleary eyed, crazed looks on their faces incoherently chanting things like "T.S. Elliot wrote The Wasteland....T.S. Elliot wrote The Wasteland...T.S. Elliot wrote..." As I write this I am sitting by the British Literature table, remind me not to take that class, it sounds like a lot of work. The snack pile has been depleted, the caffeine is running low, the students are dropping like flies. Keep the GBS students in your prayers this week, they're going to need it!

There are only three days of school left! I am now finished with four classes, and have two more to go. I finished my Doctrine of Holiness class today. I actually don't have any exams tomorrow! So my next exam will be Discipleship/Small Groups on Wednesday, followed by Principles of the Christian Life II on Thursday. Then, the push on through Camp Meeting and then... FREEDOM! I can make it, I can make it, I can make it....

Recent Choir Outing
05/04/07 06:18 PM Filed in: School

We had two choir performances yesterday, drawing to a close choir for the 06/07 school year. We have one more performance at camp meeting in a couple weeks, but that's it. We basically no longer have choir practice the rest of the year. The first event was for the National Day of Prayer, in which we sang on the steps of the court house. They had various people gives prayers on a plethora of topics. It was a really neat experience. That evening we had our most important performance yet, oratorio. We performed Handle's Messiah at a large church downtown. We were backed up by the orchestra, in which several professional musicians were hired to play as well. It was a really neat experience!
